Counselling

It's important to feel a sense of connection with the counsellor you choose to work with, so I'm glad you're taking the time to read a little bit more about me.

Professionally, I am a registered and certified counsellor in private practice and I work with both individuals and couples, in Howick, Auckland.

I am sensitive and perceptive, and use an appropriate balance between support and challenge, depending on the needs of the person I am working with. I love connecting with and supporting my clients in their healing and growth, and I count being able to help facilitate and witness profound change in others as one of the major blessings of my life.

My Counselling Practice:

In my counselling practice I use a holistic, client-centred, strength-based and psycho-educational approach influenced by the theory and practice of cognitive/behavioral, narrative, transpersonal, and mindfulness counselling.

I work with an emphasis on creating a safe and confidential environment to encourage emotional growth and to allow you to resolve problems and make changes in order to live a more fulfilled life. Sometimes an opportunity to talk something through with someone who is trained to listen attentively and objectively, without judging or offering direct advice, can provide a tremendous relief - as we are often able to speak more freely and openly in this situation. This enables us to express emotions.

I work with many issues including: anxiety, anger issues, bereavement, cancer, depression, feeling of distress and not knowing how to cope, low self-confidence.

These are some of the common situations for which people often seek counselling or therapy. This service can help you to understand and resolve your difficulties by providing the time and space to reflect and to consider how the present and the past events have impacted on your life. I will work with you to allow feelings which are hidden for whatever reason to come to the fore and be experienced, thought about and understood.

Number of Sessions:

Initially most people come to Therapy for brief periods to discuss a current concern. All clients start with a short commitment (flexible, usually 4 to 6 weeks), towards the end of which we review what you need and decide whether to continue or have a final session. My first concern is to establish trust, and from here we work to understand what's happening for you, and how to change it.

Longer Term Counselling

Some things may take longer to understand, work through or change. Unlike with other short term therapies my clients have the opportunity to stay for longer periods to work more deeply.

Ethics:

I am a provisional member of The New Zealand Association of Counsellors. As such I abide by and am answerable to their code of ethics, including Confidentiality.

See www.nzac.org.nz for more details.

Cost: I am committed to providing affordable counselling. The cost per session is one hour $80.00, one and a half hour $120.00,  couple counselling is usually one and a half hour sessions $120.00, payable on the day. It is important to be comfortable working with me. If at the end of your first session with me you decide to continue looking for a counsellor that better suits you, you will not be charged for that session. This needs to be negotiated between us at the end of the first session.

Committed to helping you live life fully and vibrantly.
